At 12 years old, Erin Garcia didn\u2019t just visit a Honda plant \u2014 she found a path that would shape her future.<\/p>\n

Years later, that same clarity guides Garcia, now a senior lecturer in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. But engineering was only one part of her path. She always wanted to teach \u2014 a goal she\u2019s held since second grade \u2014 just not in a K-12 classroom.<\/p>\n

By the time she earned her bachelor\u2019s degree at Georgia Tech, she realized she didn\u2019t have to choose. A career in higher education allows her to combine engineering with teaching at the collegiate level.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get to solve fun puzzles and help other people see why they\u2019re fun too,\u201d Garcia said.<\/p>\n

That balance defines her classroom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She says industrial engineering is about modeling complex problems and adapting them to practical constraints.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For Garcia, the most rewarding part is guiding students from frustration to understanding.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn office hours, you can see the moment it clicks,\u201d she said. \u201cThey go from \u2018I don\u2019t get this\u2019 to being excited about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garcia has taught more than a dozen different courses at Auburn and developed new ones, including a healthcare-focused class shaped by industry input.<\/p>\n
