The student research competition is sponsored by Microsoft Research to encourage students to pursue careers in computer science.<\/p>\n<p>Tian is studying high performance computing at Auburn while working for faculty member <strong><a title=\"Yu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eng.auburn.edu\/users\/wzy0005\/\" target=\"_blank\">Weikuan Yu<\/a><\/strong> in the department. Tian and Yu\u2019s work was recognized by ACM last year as one of 11 projects selected for the student research competition, earning a first place award.
