The award recognizes the research achievements and contributions from faculty members in their respective fields.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Zhihua-Jiang.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3891\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3891 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Zhihua-Jiang.jpg\" alt=\"Zhihua Jiang\" width=\"100\" height=\"125\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Zhihua Jiang<\/strong>, assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been named the director of the Alabama Center for Paper and Bioresource Engineering. Jiang earned his bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in wood and pulping chemistry from Nanjing Forestry University in China. He then went on to complete his doctoral degree in organic chemistry, with an emphasis in wood chemistry, from McGill University in Canada.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Ku-Wei-Shinn-Jeff4-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3811\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3811\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Ku-Wei-Shinn-Jeff4-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Ku, Wei-Shinn (Jeff)4\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Ku-Wei-Shinn-Jeff4-1-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Ku-Wei-Shinn-Jeff4-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a><strong>Wei-Shinn (Jeff) Ku<\/strong>, assistant professor of computer science and software engineering, is participating in the newly formed Alabama Remote Sensing Consortium working with Huntsville-based Teledyne Brown Engineering, which is providing state universities with imaging data of the Earth\u2019s surface from NASA\u2019s International Space Station. The consortium consists of researchers from Auburn University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Alabama A&amp;M University. Auburn researchers will use the data to potentially impact research in precision agriculture, forestry, biodiversity, emergency management, geo-intelligence, weather modeling and other areas.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/pradeep-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3901\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3901 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/pradeep-1.jpg\" alt=\"pradeep\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Pradeep Lall<\/strong>, John and Anne MacFarlane professor of mechanical engineering, has received the Wright Gardner Award from the Alabama Academy of Science. The award honors individuals whose work during residence in Alabama has been outstanding. Lall is best known for his research in the areas of reliability and prognostics for electronic systems operating in harsh environments.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/lipke-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3902\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3902 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/lipke-1.jpg\" alt=\"lipke\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Elizabeth Lipke<\/strong>, assistant professor of chemical engineering, was honored with the Provost Award for Excellence in Fostering Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship at \u00a0Auburn University\u2019s 2015-16 Faculty Awards.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/nels-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3900\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3900 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/nels-1.jpg\" alt=\"nels\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Nels Madsen<\/strong>, professor of mechanical engineering, is the lead developer of a new training system called \u201cDauntless\u201d that takes military and law enforcement virtual training to the next level. Users wear field-of-view headsets and transform into 3-D avatars. The system allows for an individual or team to complete missions and play them back to review tactics.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/mao.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3903\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3903 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/mao.jpg\" alt=\"mao\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Shiwen Mao<\/strong>, Samuel Ginn professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center, and doctoral student Zhifeng He earned a best paper award at the 2015 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Global Communications conference held in San Diego.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Moore-Janet1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3817\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3817 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Moore-Janet1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Moore, Janet1\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Moore-Janet1-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Moore-Janet1-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/Moore-Janet1.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a><strong>Janet Moore<\/strong> has been selected as director of academic advising for the Office of Student Services in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. Moore joins Auburn University from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, where she served as the university\u2019s director of academic enhancement and tutoring services. Before that, she was the coordinator of academic support for student-athletes.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/anton.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3898\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3898 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/anton.jpg\" alt=\"anton\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Anton Schindler<\/strong>, Mountain Spirit professor of civil engineering and director of the Highway Research Center, and Mark Barnett, professor of environmental engineering, have been listed among the top 20 educators of civil engineering by OnlineEngineeringPrograms.com. Sechel Ventures owns and operates OEP, which provides rich and informative content that addresses specific educational questions in fields with good to excellent career outlooks, such as engineering.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/alice-smith.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3889\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3889 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/alice-smith.jpg\" alt=\"alice smith\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Alice Smith<\/strong>, Joe W. Forehand\/Accenture distinguished professor of industrial and systems engineering, has been named as a Fulbright specialist by the J. William Fulbright scholarship board. Smith taught a two-week facilities design and logistics course for master\u2019s degree students in March at the Universidad EAFIT in Medellin, Colombia.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/jeff-.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3899\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3899 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/jeff-.jpg\" alt=\"jeff\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Jeffrey Suhling<\/strong>, Richard D. and Marjorie M. Quina distinguished professor and department chair of mechanical engineering, has received a $400,000 grant awarded through the Alabama Innovation Fund. Matching funds by Auburn University created an $800,000 total award for Suhling\u2019s project, \u201cDeveloping High Performance Integrated Building Energy Systems Technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/jessica.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3907\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3907 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2016\/06\/jessica.jpg\" alt=\"jessica\" width=\"100\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><strong>Jessica Taylor<\/strong> has been named director of recruiting and scholarships for the Office of Student Services in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. She previously served as the college\u2019s undergraduate student recruiter.
