Hector Galicia, a graduate student in chemical engineering, has been awarded one of five Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) student travel grants from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). The grants are awarded each year to assist promising graduate students with travel expenses to the organization\u2019s annual meeting. Galicia also received the CAST Directors\u2019 Student Presentation Award for his research. He will be recognized at the 2012 AIChE annual conference, the largest meeting worldwide for chemical engineers, later this year. Galicia\u2019s research focuses on statistical process monitoring, which improves process safety and efficiency, as well as product quality in industries such as microelectronics and pharmaceuticals. Four other recipients included students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin, Carnegie-Mellon University and McMaster University in Canada.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
