It is one of two actively shielded whole-body 7T MRI scanners in the Southeast, and one of only 30 7T scanners worldwide. The unit will be used solely for research, providing dynamic images of how the brain functions. The 7T, which can provide high-resolution scans of nerves, muscles and tissue, will be used to develop new techniques for cardiovasuclar imaging and advanced technology for next generation MRI scanners.
