{"id":2869,"date":"2014-07-09T14:13:55","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T14:13:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/?p=2869"},"modified":"2014-07-16T18:39:30","modified_gmt":"2014-07-16T18:39:30","slug":"i-believe-in-education-which-gives-me-the-knowledge-to-work-wisely-and-trains-my-mind-and-hands-to-work-skillfully","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/?p=2869","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and hands to work skillfully&#8230;&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two Auburn Engineering students are fulfilling the Auburn Creed through the successful creation and launch of their inventions for the annual Business Plan Contest for Engineering Inventions, sponsored by <a title=\"thomas walter \" href=\"http:\/\/www.eng.auburn.edu\/research\/centers\/twc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Auburn\u2019s Thomas Walter Center for Technology Management<\/a>.\u00a0<strong>Haitham Eletrabi<\/strong>, doctoral student in civil engineering, and\u00a0<strong>Matthew Phillips<\/strong>, senior in aerospace engineering, placed first and second, respectively, in the competition with their prototype designs and corresponding business plans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2874 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2014\/07\/BET-inventions-1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"BET inventions 1\" width=\"233\" height=\"350\" \/>Eletrabi, who earned a master\u2019s of business administration from the Harbert College of\u00a0Business last fall, received $6,000 toward the development of a smart phone application that uses sensors to monitor athletes\u2019 performances and movements. Phillips received $3,000 for his plan to retrofit hydrogen fuel systems for automobiles. To qualify, teams created and designed a concept with a significant engineering emphasis, as well as a business model for the invention.
