{"id":3408,"date":"2015-05-05T20:15:36","date_gmt":"2015-05-05T20:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/?p=3408"},"modified":"2015-05-28T19:54:45","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T19:54:45","slug":"slinging-mud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/?p=3408","title":{"rendered":"Slinging mud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2015\/05\/baja77.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-3462 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2015\/05\/baja77-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"baja7[7]\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2015\/05\/baja77-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2015\/05\/baja77-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ecm.eng.auburn.edu\/wp\/emag\/files\/2015\/05\/baja77.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Nearly 100 student teams from around the globe got a little mud on their tires at Baja SAE Auburn as students took on steep inclines, maneuverability courses through rough woody terrain, and a four-hour long race on a course littered with hairpin curves, severe drop-offs, sand traps, jagged rocks and murky trenches.<\/p>\n<p>The College of Engineering hosted the event for the fourth time at the National Center for Asphalt Technology\u2019s test track in Opelika \u2013 which the Society of Automotive Engineers considers the most rugged of all its collegiate design competitions \u2013 and saw more than 1,300 students from universities as far away as Egypt, India and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn\u2019s Baja team earned a sixth-place finish overall, with combined scores from static events including a business presentation and design evaluation, as well as dynamic events in acceleration, hill climb, maneuverability, suspension and the endurance race hosted by Honda.<\/p>\n<p>Baja SAE Auburn was the first of three North American Baja SAE competitions held during the 2015 racing season.
