BACKGROUND

The ProBioRefine project was launched in 2014 as a joint project between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU—Chemical & Biochemical Engineering) and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST—Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering) with funding from various sources. The project brings together leading researchers from around the world to address important aspects of integrated biorefineries including identification of optimal processing routes (networks) for the conversion of specific biomass resources into a desired product portfolio (fuels and chemicals) while accounting for currently available technologies and future developments. The objective of the ProBioRefine project is to develop systematic methods and associated tools for analysis and design of innovative biorefinery networks (both biochemical and thermochemical) for conversion of appropriate biomass feedstocks into value-added chemicals and fuels.

The first two ProBioRefine Workshops were held at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2015 and KAIST in 2014 respectively. The goal of the workshops is to create an academic and industrial dialogue, a critical assessment of existing enabling technologies, a discussion on research, education, and industrial needs, and a forum for new directions, challenges and opportunities for biorefineries.

VENUE AND TRANSPORTATION

The 2016 ProBioRefine Workshop will be held December 7-8, 2016 at The Hotel at Auburn University (www.auhcc.com). The hotel offers excellent accommodations and conference facilities. Auburn is conveniently located approximately 100 miles southwest of the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL). Participants can either rent a car or use the airport shuttle (www.groometransportation.com) which stops at the conference hotel.
