Organizing Committee

Dr. Nicoletta Fala is an Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering at Auburn University. She received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University and has conducted research in aerospace human factors for the past decade. Her research has involved pilot training, data-driven safety and flight data analytics, and augmented reality flight simulation. She is an instrument rated commercial pilot for single and multi engine aircraft and a flight instructor. She is the host for the 2027 International Symposium on Aerospace Psychology.

Dr. Martijn IJtsma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University. His research focuses on human-machine systems in high-consequence domains, with a particular interest in computational modeling to support coordination and resilient performance. He received BSc and MSc degrees in aerospace engineering from the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in 2013 and 2016, respectively, and a PhD degree in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2019. In addition to serving on the ISAP organizing committee, he serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making and as chair elect of the Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making Technical Group of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES).

Dr. Sherry Chappell provides Human Factors expertise to scientists and practitioners at NASA, FAA, and AAM companies on research and product development to improve aviation safety. Previously she was an FAA Scientific and Technical Advisor, NASA’s Chief Scientist for the Safety Reporting System, designed soldier uncrewed air- and ground-vehicle systems for the US Army, developed pilot training for Delta Air Lines, and managed safety recommendations for the National Transportation Safety Board. Sherry is a Certified Human Factors Professional, an instrument-rated commercial land and seaplane pilot, and a commercial remote pilot.

Dr. Meredith Carroll is a Professor of Aviation Human Factors, and Founder and Director of the Advancing Technology-interaction and Learning in Aviation Systems (ATLAS) Lab at Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Aeronautics. She has over 20 years of experience studying human/team performance and training in complex systems, and her research focuses on human-autonomy teaming, decision making in complex systems, cognition and learning, performance and expertise assessment, and adaptive training. She teaches a range of human factors courses aimed at giving students practical, hands-on experience in applying theories of cognition and learning to optimize performance in a range of situations from aviation to defense. She received her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia, her M.S. in Aviation Science from Florida Institute of Technology and her Ph.D. in Applied Experimental Psychology and Human Factors from the University of Central Florida.
