Aidan Bosman has always been drawn to water — from growing up in drought-prone Colorado to pursuing civil engineering research that addresses pressing environmental challenges.

Now a graduate research assistant at Auburn University’s Stormwater Research Facility, he is applying that interest to projects designed to improve water quality and strengthen communities.

After earning his bachelor’s degree at Iowa State University, Bosman was introduced to Auburn through a personal connection. Recruited by Michael Perez, Brasfield & Gorrie Associate Professor and director of the Stormwater Research Facility, he saw an opportunity to turn his interests into hands-on research.

“I’ve always loved figuring things out and solving problems,” he said. “Stormwater research at Auburn was a perfect fit.”

That work is already making an impact.

Through his involvement in the city of Auburn’s Hickory Dickory Park restoration project, Bosman has helped restore creek banks and implement stormwater control measures such as bioretention cells and swales — all aimed at reducing erosion and improving water quality at the popular park.

“Getting hands-on experience with a project like this gives you a deeper understanding of what it means to do work with real-life impact,” he said.
